Dr Abdul Burhan (Psychiatrist) - General Adult and Psychiatry of Old Age
MB Ch B - FRANZCP, Cert POA
Abdul graduated from medical school in 1990, during his work as medical officer in various specialties he was specially attracted to psychiatry. He was awarded with the Fellowship of Psychiatry by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in 2008. He currently works as a Visiting Medical Officer and the Clinical Leader of Mental Health Service for Older People in the Illawarra, as well as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Wollongong. Dr Burhan established the Shellharbour Psychological Medicine Clinic aiming to offer a holistic model of care to all of his clients. He works closely with other Psychiatrists, GP's, Clinical Psychologists and Mental Health Nurses to provide a comprehensive biopsychosocial experience.
Dr. Burhan has extensive experience in all areas of psychiatry and a sound background in general medicine.
Dr Beverley Rayers (Psychiatrist) - Old Age Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry.
Bev obtained her Bachelor of Medicine at Southampton University Medical School in England. She worked throughout Australia and the UK in General Practice, Addiction Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Remote and Rural Health before undertaking further specialist training as a Psychiatrist.
She has a Masters Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Townsville University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Drug and Alcohol Treatment from the Imperial College, London.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and is a clinical Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at the University of Wollongong.
Dr Biju Rajan (Psychiatrist) - General Adult/Young Adult
Dr Biju Rajan is a General Adult Psychiatrist with special interest in the mental health of young adults. His books are now open to see clients.
Dr Habib Joseph Behi (Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist).
Dr Behi qualified in Medicine in 2000 (UK) and undertook specialist training in Psychiatry in Wales, obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) in 2007, Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (GMC UK) and since moving to Australia 2 years ago has gained Fellowship with the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Habib has worked across community based and hospital (inpatient) environments looking after children, adolescents and young adults with mental illness and psychological problems. Dr Behi's books are currently closed for new patients, until the new year.
Dr W.Wahaib Al Doorie (Psychiatrist) - General Adult Psychiatry
Dr Al Doorie is a Consultant General Psychiatrist with 23 years experience in Psychiatry. Dr Al Doorie graduated in 1986 MBCHB, with three qualifications in Psychiatry, 1994 FICMS, 2001 CAB, 2012 FRANZCP. He has been working in Australia over the last 6 years, moving to the area from Tasmania 4 years ago. He is a Consultant Psychiatrist in Shellharbour Hospital, and senior lecturer in UOW.
Dr Sunera Fernando (Psychiatrist) - General Adult Psychiatry
Sunera has eleven years experience of working in psychiatry. She graduated from medical school in 2001. She obtained her MD Psychiatry in 2007 and was awarded the FRANZCP in 2014, and has obtained PhD from UOW. Currently she is a staff specialist at the Nowra Community Mental Health Centre. Apart from clinical work, she is a Visiting Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Wollongong, and a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Graduate School of Medicine (UOW). Sunera has expertise in all areas of psychiatry, with special interest in anxiety disorders. She also provides telepsychiatry consults for the South Coast.
Dr Chitra Parab
Dr Parab has been working as a developmental paediatrician in the Illawarra region since 2012. Her special interest is in the diagnostic assessment as well as management of developmental and behavioural issues in children such as Autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay/intellectual disability, learning difficulties, ADHD and behavioural concerns.
Dr Parab graduated in Medicine (MBBS) in 1997 and completed specialist training in Paediatrics (MD, DNB) in 2001 from Mumbai University, India. Dr Parab has been working in Australia since 2005 across a range of clinical settings in paediatrics. She has completed General Paediatrics as well as Developmental Paediatrics fellowships, FRACP with Royal Australian College of Physicians. She has also completed Masters Public Health.
Dr Parab's books are now open to accept new clients for 2016.
Mrs Jeni Martin (Clinical Psychologist) – General Adult and Older People
Jeni provides a range of Medicare related services and time-limited evidenced based therapies for adults and older adults who have a range of mental health issues and psychological complaints. JENI IS TAKING LEAVE IN 2016, AND WILL RETURN IN 2017.
Ms Amanda Palamara (Psychologist) - General Adult and Adolescent
Amanda provides treatment and support for issues concerning: self esteem,
anger management, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, post natal depression,
grief and bereavement, medication compliance, pain management, domestic violence
and drug and alcohol issues. Amanda is also a Work Cover Service
Provider for NSW.
Dr Sue Thomas (Clinical Psychologist)
Dr Sue Thomas specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive
disorder, primarily through cognitive-behavioural approaches.
Sue completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology examining the cognitive neuroscience of OCD. Medicare rebates available.
Mrs Narelle Pike (Psychologist) - Child/Adolescent and young adults
Narelle specialises in working with young people,their families and service providers. Narelle is still accepting referrals, although has a waiting list for new patients.
Ms Paula Farrugia (Psychologist)
Paula is a registered psychologist who holds a Master of Applied Psychology, a Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) and a Master of Mental Health (Adult). She uses CBT as a primary treatment modality, however draws from a wide range of other theories and techniques enabling her to tailor sessions to the individual and specific needs of her clients. Paula has special interest in mood and anxiety disorders as well as workplace (WorkCover accredited), and relationship issues, families, parenting and adolescents.
Ms Olga Tanevska (Psychologist) - General Adult Psychology
Olga is a registered psychologist with 10 years experience in providing support and treatment for a wide range of issues including depression and anxiety, relationship and family issues, grief and bereavement, work related issues and pain management, and adjustment to injury. Olga utilises a number of the latest evidence based therapies tailored to the individuals needs. She is also WorkCover accredited, and speaks fluent Macedonian.
Mr Tony Swinton (Clinical Psychologist)
A generalist practice treating children, adolescents and their families, as well as adults. Eleven years experience within two Child & Adolescent Mental Health teams assessing, diagnosing and treating children and adolescents with mental health disorders, behavioural disorders and difficulties with emotional regulation. Eight years working with adults, children and adolescents and their families in various states of distress and dysfunction within a private psychology practice. Our Mental Health Nurse
Janice is a mental health nurse of 25+ years. She initially worked with children and adolescents. Janice has worked most recently in acute services in inpatient and community facilities. She is credentialed with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
Janice works closely with Psychiatrists, Psychologists and Allied Mental Health Workers.
Sometimes when suffering a mental illness people can feel very isolated and alone. Janice is motivated to help people feel reconnected and included in their local community. Janice will work with the patient to put into place actions to decrease the trauma associated with mental illness.
Janice is also interested in conducting groups that can be activity, therapy or educational based.
